Because people seem to be calling with the same kind of questions I thought I would answer some FAQ's:
I've installed it but it's a bit wobbly, how can I fix it.
Use the metal locking clip that came with the seat (it's in a wee pocket on the back), put the Radian in the car in the position it needs to be, thread the seatbelt through according to whether it's forward or rear facing, clip seatbelt up and tighten as much as you can - it helps sometimes to sit in the seat to squash it down. Hold seatbelt straps firmly and undo clip. Apply metal locking clip to the buckle end of the seatbelt. Redo up seatbelt (you will probably need to sit in the seat to squash it down).
My car has the LATCH system, what does that mean?
That means your car has been fitted with special points in the factory that are strong and safe to secure your carseat in place without the use of the seatbelt. You can either use the LATCH system to install the seat, or a seatbelt. Do try both because some people find a tighter install with a seatbelt.
I've put the base on so the seat is rear facing, but the wee bit at the front keeps falling off, what do I do?
If you flip it over so you can see the underside, you'll see a white sticker that says "When rear facing install base to alignment mark", and there's a wee metal piece with a screw in it. Make sure that is pushed down so the metal piece is inside the wee hole. You can secure by tightening the screw. T
Where should the harness and clip sit on my child?
That depends whether your child is forward or rear facing. If rear facing the harness should come from at or below your child's shoulders. If forward facing straps should come from at or above your child's shoulders. The chest clip (harness clip) should sit at your child's armpit level.
What's the "Emergency information for child" thing for?
That's somewhere to record your child's name and DOB as well as any allergies they may have in case you are involved in an accident and are unable to convey that information to emergency services. It also has a place for contact information and it's a good idea to put additional details for a family member/close friend that wouldn't be in the car with you in case of emergency.
What's the registration card for, do I really need to fill that out?
That's how Sunshine Kids will get hold of you in case your seat is recalled, so YES please fill it out and send it back. There's a freepost envelope provided so it won't even cost you anything to do it. I can't encourage returning this enough!!
How tight do I need to do the harness up?
I always err on the side of tight. Remember even the safest carseat installed exactly as it should be will be useless if your child isn't buckled into it properly. You should be able to comfortably slip 2 fingers side by side under the harness once it's done up.
I live in Australia, can I use the Radian here?
In short no. The Radian is illegal for use in Australia. This is because Australia needs to safety test all seats to their own standard regardless of any other certification it may have. I would highly recommend asking lots of questions and making an informed decision about which restraint your child will use. I do send to Australia if you choose that's what you want, but take no responsibility for any fines you might receive for using the Radian. Please email me if you wish to order one and you live in Australia. I absolutely will not send carseats overseas if they are not insured so please don't ask me to :).
Please remember there are NO stupid questions! If you have any concerns or questions PLEASE don't hesitate to email me. I would rather answer what you might think is a silly question than have you wondering if it's safe or not.
